[H M Ship Providence from Jamaica towards] England – 1793

Saturday July 27th

 1 pm: Fresh gale and thick rainy weather

 3 pm: Unbent the old & bent the new Fore Top Mast Staysail

 4 pm: Ditto Weather

 6 pm: Worked the Pumps as usual – at 6 In 2d Reef Fore & Main & 1st Mizen Topsails – at 6..45 hove to & sounded with 160 fathoms no ground – at 7..25 wore Ship – Constant Rain – Fires in the Galley all night to air ship & dry cloaths

11 pm: Made a false fire – answered by ye Assistant

12 mid: Ditto Weather

 1 am: Made a false fire. Answered by the Assistant

 3 am: Light breeze

 4 am: Ditto Weather – fired a Swivel Out all Reefs

 5 am: Fresh Gale & Foggy weather – In 2d Reefs Topsails

 7 am: Served thick portable Soup gruel for breakfast – at 8 Fresh Gale and dark cloudy weather – Assistant, Antelope, Thomas & Cleminson in company – Saw Sheerwaters – Cleaned below – at 11 Thick haze with Rain Served Krout – broached a Puncheon of Spruce beer

12 noon: At Noon fresh Gale & cloudy weather – Vessels in Company as before – Aired ship with fires
