H M Ship Providence from Jamaica towards [England – 1793]

Remarks Monday July 8th

 1 pm: Moderate breeze and fine weather

 3 pm: Saw flying fish and gulf weed – at 3 Saw a Schooner from deck bearing NbE – at 4..30 Shortened Sail and hove to, at 5 wore and lay to, The Assistant boarded the Schooner, She proved the Tryal of Boston, bound to St Lucia loaded with Lumber & fish, out 10 Days – at 5..30 bore away and made Sail – Exercised great Guns, & worked the Pumps – Lightning in the NW Quarter

12 mid: Light Shower of rain

 1 am: Clear weather

 3 am: Cloudy

 4 am: Shower of Rain

 5 am: Served thick portable Soup gruel for breakfast

 8 am: At 8 Hazy weather – cleaned below – Served Krout and Vinegar to the Crew – Exercised great Guns – Marines at Small arms and new entered men with powder – Sailmakers repairing the Fore Top Gallant royal & Fore Top Gallant Steering Sail

12 noon: At Noon moderate breeze & fair weather with haze Assistant, Antelope, Cleminson & Thomas in Company
