Tobin's Providence Logbook Nov 3, 1792

H M S Providence from Timor towards [St. Helena – 1792]

Remarks Saturday November 3d

 1 pm: Light breezes and cloudy weather – with a long heavy and confused Sea

 3 pm: Stowed the Fore & Main Sail rooms afresh, & roused up the small Bower cable and new stowed it

 6 pm: Light breezes and cloudy weather – a long swell In Top Gallant Steering Sails and 1st Reefs

 9 pm: Squally to the Eastward in fore & Fore Top Mast Steering Sails

12 mid: Light Airs, calms, and fair weather with moon light

 3 am: Small Rain

 5 am: Light Airs and cloudy weather – made sail

 7 am: Ship falling off to the SE Tacked – Saw a Sand Piper some birds like gulls, 2 Sharks, many Albatrosses, Dolphins & Bonettas. A light Air & a Cloudy Sky – Passed by a piece of wood – At Noon [?] breezes and cloudy – A squall of rain on the Lee Bow – Saw Squids – The usual breakfast – Washed below – steering & all Sails set
