Tobin's Providence Logbook Oct 26, 1792

[H M Ship Providence from Timor towards] St. Helena – 1792

Friday 26th October

 1 pm: Fresh Gale and cloudy weather

 2 pm: Saw several Tropic Birds

 4 pm: Unbent the best & bent the old Jib – hauled in the Lower Steering Sail – worked the Pumps as usual – at 6 a stady fresh breeze & fine weather

 9 pm: Squally with a light shower of rain

12 mid: Fresh Gale and fine weather

 2 am: In Fore Top Mast Steering Sail

 4 am: In Top Gallant Sails

 5 am: Fair weather – Saw Tropic Birds

 6 am: Got down Top Gallant Yards to bend the old Top Gallant Sails – set the Fore Top Mast Steering Sail – Served the usual Breakfast – Washed the gun, Orlop, & Cockpits and as usual sluiced the beams well to destroy cockroaches – Ared ship with fires – Served Krout – Portable Soup in the Pease for dinner – Got up Top Gallant Yards & unbent the second best & bent the old Fore Sail – Broached a Puncheon of Spruce Beer – At Noon fresh Gale and fair weather
