Tobin's Providence Logbook Jan 14, 1792

[H M Ship Providence from Table Bay Cape of Good] Hope towards Adventure Bay Van Diemens Land in 1792

Saturday January 14th 1792

 1 pm: A Moderate breeze and fine weather – a swell from the SW Quarter – Saw the same birds as yesterday – Carpenters about the Small Cutter

 7 pm: Let in fresh Water and pumped it out as usual

 1 am: Kept a fire in the Galley to air Ship

 2 am: Dark Cloudy Sky to the NW

 4 am: Made more Sail

 5 am: The Fore Topsail tye gave way, spliced and rove it again

 8 am: Out 1st Reef Main Top Sail, got the Chests and Bags up, Washed the Gun Orlop and Cockpit Decks – Served Sweet wort and Krout to the Ships Company as usual

12 noon: Aired Ship the the Brodie Stoves and got up all the Seamens wet cloaths to dry – At Noon moderate breeze with Thick misty weather
   Latitude Observed 37°..58′ South No Observation
