Bond's Providence Logbook Jul 16, 1793

Remarks &c 16th July 1793

 1 pm: Fresh breezes and fair weather – Saw Flying fish. Unbent the old and bent the new Top Gallant staysail – Sailmakers as before.

 5 pm: In royals. Bent the old Mizen Top Sail. Exercised great Guns. In steering sails and 1st. reef Top Sails.

 8 pm: Fresh gales and clear weather

10 pm: Squally, handed Top Gallant Sails.

12 mid: In 2nd. reef Main & 2nd & 3rd reefs Fore Top Sail.

 2 am: Cloudy with heavy Dew falling

 4 am: Out 3rd reef Fore Top Sail and set Top Gallant sails. Assistant in company – Antelope, Clementson & Thomas in sight a head.

 6 am: Served thick gruel for breakfast. Split the old Main Top Gallant Sail, and bent the best.

 8 am: Washed below, and aired with fires. Exercised great Guns. Saw a Ship in the SE steering about WNW. Hoisted our Colours, but she did not shew hers.

12 noon: At Noon fresh gale with haze – the strange sail in sight – vessels in company as before
   Latitude Observed 39°·24′ North
