Bond's Providence Logbook Nov 28, 1792

Remarks &c from Timor towards St. Helena 28th November 1792

 1 pm: Strong gales and squally weather with showers of rain. Bent the Fore and Mizen storm staysails. Set the Main Top Sail – ½ past 2 handed Main Top Sail

 3 pm: Hard squalls saw Albatrosses, Pintada birds and a whale – Handed Mainsail and got in the Spritsail Fore Sail Yard – Squally within board and without.

 5 pm: Hard gales and fair weather

 6 pm: At 6.15 wore ship – reefed the Mizen and cleared the Tops &c of Lumber.

 8 pm: Hard gales and wy with a high sea.

 9 pm: Very hard squalls and showers of rain, with Lightning all round the compass

12 mid: Very hard squalls and heavy rain.

 1 am: Violent gusts of wind

 4 am: Very hard gales and fine clear weather The Brig under double reefed Fore sail & Try sail. – Saw sheerwaters and Albatrosses

 6 am: Squalls less frequent and less violent. A high sea running and the ship rolling deep. The Helm ½ a turn from being a-lee; double reefed Fore sail ⅔ Storm Mizen Staysail set – At 7 set the Fore Stay sail; and at 8 the Main Top Sail – More Moderate

10 am: Set the Main sial. Saw Pintada birds. Overhauled the Foresail [room?] to find a leak – Sailmakers mending old Top Gallant Sails

11 am: Set the Fore & Mizen Top Sails &c. Served Sour Krout, with Portable Soup in the Pease for Dinner

12 noon: Fresh gale and fair weather Assistant in company
